Narrow shelves displaying my paints all colour coded

How I Transformed my Workspace into a Creative Haven

I woke up one morning and thought, Nope, I can't do this anymore. The walls felt like they were closing in on me, and I couldn't find anything! My space wasn't dedicated to my art - there were novels, fishing rods, and random craft supplies from years gone by. It was chaotic, and my mind was just as cluttered. You know what they say, clear space, clear mind - so I decided it was time to revamp.

I started by completely emptying the room, leaving myself with a blank canvas. My mission was clear: only things related to art or my art business were allowed back in. I needed a space that felt calmer, more organized, and above all, inspiring. Slowly but surely, I began reintroducing things, figuring out where they would work best.

One of the biggest changes was removing these large, impractical shelves. Since I'm on the shorter side, I had to use a step stool to grab anything, and finding paints was a hassle. I replaced them with narrow shelves (picture ledges from IKEA) where I could line up my paints in a single row along the wall. Now everything is organised by type: I've got fluid paints, inks, structure paints, and spray paints all neatly arranged. It's visually stunning - a wall of colour that lifts my mood the second I step into the room.

I am finding the space is so easy to keep tidy now! I can actually put my paints away after I use them, instead of leaving them scattered all over my desk. Before, I was constantly searching for the right colour - it was ridiculous! Now everything has it's place, and it makes such a difference when I'm working.

Now I absolutely recommend creating a workspace that inspires you. I even hung up some of my own work on the walls for extra motivation! I love having everything within easy reach and two clear workbenches, so I no longer have to use the floor (which was my go-to when space ran out). My studio may be about 3x3 meters, but now it feels like my very own creative sanctuary.

So if your workspace feels overwhelming, consider a little refresh! You'll be amazed at how much easier and enjoyable creating can become with a space that works with you, not against you.

Much Love

Lisa
